Last night, a loud and boisterous Oklahoma crowd surely witness the performance of a lifetime. Not only did those in attendance see one of the greatest rock bands of all time in Guns N’ Roses, (and one which many thought would never play together again) but surprisingly legendary drummer, guitarist, and singer Dave Grohl as well.
To an unsuspecting crowd, Grohl was introduced by GNR’s polarizing frontman Axl Rose, who stated that Grohl “happened to be in the neighborhood.” Grohl then joined the band in playing guitar for its immortalized hit from 1987, “Paradise City.”
After a decade or two long indifference between Grohl and Rose due to Rose’s distaste for Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, for whom Grohl played drums, the two rock stars seemingly had made amends after Grohl lent Rose his famous ‘guitar-throne’ to use on stage after breaking his leg in 2016. Stemming from Cobain’s rejection of Rose’s repeated offers for GNR to tour with Nirvana in the early 90s, Rose took offense and was quoted calling Cobain a “junkie.”
Many years have passed, and since announcing initial reunion performances at Coachella and Las Vegas in early 2016, Guns N’ Roses has been playing shows nonstop around the world for its Not In This Lifetime… Tour. Music industry staple Billboard reported that as of June 17, GNR had grossed over $99,000,000 since the previous winter alone.
With concerts booked through summer 2018, the band looks to continue its reemergence into the mainstream, and has debatably proved that even younger generations are demanding to see classic hits such as “Mr. Brownstone,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” and “Welcome to the Jungle.”
